In August my friend, Ryan Murray, and I set out to create a visual for my latest release ‘Body on My Shoulders.’ Four months later we’ve finally finished up my first video as an artist and Murray’s first full production. Given the personal nature of the story behind ‘Body on My Shoulders,’ we wanted to strike a balance between conveying my experience accurately while being respectful to those directly affected by the tragedy.
Ryan and I were lucky enough to get in touch with the owners of the legendary Tipitina’s. They helped us work with our limited budget to secure their venue – truly making the whole production possible.
Story Behind “Body On My Shoulders”:
The song reflects on Hans’ first year at Tulane University, where he was a first responder to a floormate’s suicide in the first few days of school. The experience and subsequent guilt and fear stuck with him as he lived one room over from his nightmare. Writing ‘Body on My Shoulders’ has been an extremely personal and cathartic experience for him; he hopes it will help others overcome tragedy - especially those directly affected. Hans also pledged the first $1,000 earned from ‘Body on My Shoulders’ will be donated to the JED Foundation.
The Body on My Shoulders Video will be available on all platforms Dec 4th.
